Nimoo inspection team cracks down on single-use plastic, littering in market

NIMOO: A joint inspection team led by Block Development Officer (BDO) Nimoo Manzoor Hussain conducted an enforcement drive across Nimoo-Basgo market and adjoining areas on Wednesday to check the use of banned single-use plastics, roadside littering and violations of waste management norms.

The inspection team comprised Naib Tehsildar Basgo Rahullah, Panchayat Inspector Palzes and personnel from the local police administration.

During the drive, commercial shops, retail outlets and other business establishments were inspected for the use of prohibited single-use plastic bags, packaging materials and other non-biodegradable items.

The team also directed commercial establishments and households in the area to register with the Solid Resource Management Centre (SRMC) to facilitate systematic door-to-door waste collection.

Shopkeepers, vendors and residents were warned against littering, unhygienic waste disposal and the burning of garbage. The inspection team also cautioned against dumping waste in open drains and along public roads and other thoroughfares.

The administration urged local businesses and residents to cooperate with the enforcement measures and adopt reusable alternatives to single-use plastic.

Residents were also encouraged to segregate waste at source to improve local waste management and reduce the impact of improperly disposed waste on the surrounding environment.

The inspecting officials said regular monitoring of the area would continue and warned that repeat violations could attract penalties under applicable sanitation and environmental regulations.

The drive forms part of ongoing efforts by the local administration to strengthen enforcement of environmental regulations and improve waste management practices in Nimoo and surrounding areas.
