Nyoma hosts Livestock Mission Camp to educate Sheep Breeders on govt schemes

NYOMA: The Sheep Husbandry Department, Nyoma, on Saturday organised a breeder-cum-awareness camp at Chumur (Phu) under the National Livestock Mission, reaching out to local livestock rearers with information on government welfare schemes and scientific sheep husbandry practices aimed at improving productivity and sustainable livestock management.

The outreach programme focused on encouraging breeders to adopt scientific breeding methods, strengthen animal health management and make informed use of government support initiatives to enhance livestock-based livelihoods in the region.

Assistant Director, Sheep Husbandry Department, Nyoma, Dr. Mohammed Sadiq, and Dr. Tsewang Dolma, Manager, PGF Khurul, addressed the participants and outlined the objectives of the National Livestock Mission. They highlighted the programme’s role in promoting improved breeding practices, disease prevention and sustainable livestock management to increase productivity and strengthen rural incomes.

During the interaction, Dr. Sadiq also advocated the use of locally available organic manure as a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable resource for improving soil fertility and pasture development, noting that healthier grazing conditions contribute directly to improved livestock health and productivity.

The camp witnessed active participation from local breeders and farmers, who engaged with departmental officials on modern sheep rearing techniques, livestock health management and the range of assistance available under government programmes.

The awareness programme formed part of the department’s continuing efforts to strengthen livestock development in Nyoma by promoting scientific management practices and expanding awareness of schemes designed to support pastoral communities across the region.
