PM Modi Interacts with Ladakh youth under VVVP, reaffirms focus on border development

Participants from Leh share aspirations and challenges of frontier communities; Prime Minister highlights vision of self-reliant and prosperous border villages

LEH: Reiterating the Centre’s commitment to the holistic development of India’s frontier regions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday virtually interacted with participants of the Viksit Vibrant Village Programme (VVVP) 2026, with youth representatives from Ladakh sharing first-hand perspectives on life in remote border villages and their aspirations for a more prosperous future.

The interaction was held at the Mini Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Leh, where 20 participants from Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Ladakh, took part in the programme in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner and officials.

The virtual interaction provided a unique opportunity for young participants from Ladakh’s border region to directly engage with the Prime Minister, offering valuable insights into the realities of life in remote frontier villages and discussing the opportunities and challenges that shape these strategically significant areas.

During the interaction, the participants spoke about the distinctive lifestyle of people residing in border areas, highlighting both the resilience of local communities and the challenges they continue to face. They raised issues relating to road and digital connectivity, livelihood generation, employment opportunities, and the overall socio-economic development of remote villages, while also sharing their aspirations for better infrastructure, improved public services and enhanced opportunities for the younger generation.

Responding to the participants, Prime Minister Narendra Modi elaborated on the vision and objectives of the Viksit Vibrant Village Programme, underscoring the Government of India’s resolve to transform border villages into vibrant, self-reliant and economically prosperous communities.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the programme seeks to strengthen infrastructure, improve essential public services, expand livelihood opportunities and ensure inclusive development in villages located along the country’s borders. He emphasised that vibrant border villages are not only crucial for national security but also play a vital role in preserving India’s rich cultural heritage and promoting balanced regional development.

He noted that sustained investments in infrastructure, connectivity, education, healthcare, tourism and economic activities are aimed at improving the quality of life for residents while creating new avenues of growth for youth living in remote frontier regions.

The interaction also reflected the Government’s emphasis on participatory governance by providing young citizens with a platform to directly communicate with the country’s leadership and contribute their ideas towards policy implementation.

Officials said the programme encouraged meaningful dialogue between the Prime Minister and youth representatives, reinforcing the importance of community participation in shaping the future of border villages.

For Ladakh, where several villages lie along India’s strategically important frontiers, the interaction assumes added significance as the Union Territory continues to witness increased focus on infrastructure development, rural connectivity, livelihood enhancement and youth empowerment under various flagship initiatives.

The virtual engagement concluded with a renewed commitment to the vision of building developed, vibrant and self-reliant border villages, reaffirming the Government of India’s resolve to ensure that communities living in the country’s remotest regions remain active partners in the nation’s journey towards a Viksit Bharat.
