SHAM: District Police Sham on Monday intensified its drive against the illicit liquor trade by conducting raids in the Khaltsi area, leading to the seizure of around 50 litres of illicit liquor and the registration of two cases under the Excise Act.

According to a police statement, the raids were carried out by a police team led by Inspector Tsewang Norboo, Station House Officer of Police Station Khaltsi, at various locations in the area on June 29.

During the operation, the police recovered approximately 50 litres of illicit liquor (lahan) from the possession of Tara Tamang and Tsering Angmo Sherpa, both residents of Nepal. The seized liquor was taken into custody on the spot after following the prescribed legal procedures.

Police said that FIR No. 28/2026 and FIR No. 29/2026 under Section 50(1) of the Excise Act have been registered at Police Station Khaltsi.

The investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the illicit liquor, its intended distribution network, and other related aspects, the statement said.

Reiterating its commitment to curbing unlawful activities, District Police Sham said it will continue taking action against the illegal manufacture, sale and transportation of illicit liquor and other contraband.

The police also appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information regarding the illegal manufacture, sale or transportation of liquor, narcotics or any other criminal activities in their respective areas.
