LEH: Professional cyclist Lekzas Angmo and professional Taekwondo player Dawa Chosgyan have urged the youth of Ladakh to stay away from drugs and harmful substances, stressing the importance of healthy choices, family support and a strong sense of purpose in building a secure future.
In a message addressed to young people across Ladakh, the two sportspersons said stress, anxiety and personal challenges are part of life, but turning to drugs or other harmful substances cannot be a solution to such difficulties.
They cautioned that substance abuse can undermine young people’s aspirations, careers and the future they work hard to build, urging them instead to adopt healthier ways of dealing with challenges.
The athletes also highlighted the role of parents and families in helping young people navigate difficult periods.
They called for stronger relationships between parents and children, saying open communication, understanding and guidance can help young people cope with challenges and avoid harmful habits.
The message also underlined the need for a broader community response to substance abuse, with families, institutions and society working together to support young people and encourage healthy lifestyles.
Angmo and Chosgyan called upon the people of Ladakh to contribute towards building a drug-free society by supporting young people and promoting positive choices.
The message urged youth to prioritise their health and aspirations and remain focused on their goals rather than resorting to substances that could jeopardise their future.
“Choose health. Choose your dreams. Choose a brighter future,” the message said, calling for a collective commitment towards a Drug-Free Ladakh.
