DRASS: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday claimed a fresh expansion of its support base in Drass, with leaders and workers associated with the Congress and National Conference joining the party during the Seva Sankalp Yatra in the presence of senior BJP leaders.
The new entrants included a retired Zonal Education Officer, retired headmaster, former police officer and former Sarpanch, besides other local leaders and party workers.
The joining programme was held under the leadership of BJP State President Tashi Gyaltson Khachu and was attended by State General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Kaul, former Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Leh Advocate Tashi Gyalson, Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk, Yuva Morcha President Thinlay Chumik, Mahila Morcha President Rinchen Dolkar, Mahila Morcha General Secretary Choskit and Drass Prabhari Masood, besides other senior party leaders and workers.
Addressing the gathering, BJP leaders attributed the latest political realignment to what they described as a growing public focus on development and infrastructure in Drass.
They said the region had for years faced inadequate development and limited administrative attention, while claiming that various initiatives undertaken by the BJP Government had improved infrastructure and brought greater focus to local aspirations.
The leaders said the entry of political workers from different backgrounds reflected what they described as growing public confidence in the BJP’s development agenda.
Welcoming the new members, Tashi Gyaltson Khachu said the BJP remained committed to the overall development of Drass and to ensuring that the region received greater attention and opportunities.
He said the joining of leaders and workers associated with different political formations demonstrated increasing confidence in the BJP’s approach to development and grassroots engagement.
The newly inducted members, according to the BJP, expressed confidence in the party’s leadership and pledged to strengthen its organisation at the grassroots level while working for the development and welfare of the people of Drass. The latest political induction comes as the BJP continues to expand its organisational activities in the region through public outreach programmes and party mobilisation.
