LEH: The Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign was launched across Durbuk Sub-Division on Sunday, with the administration aiming to achieve complete vaccination coverage for all children below the age of five, including those living in remote and high-altitude settlements.
The campaign was inaugurated by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Durbuk, at the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Jangtse, where the official administered Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to children to formally launch the immunisation drive.
The administration said mobile vaccination teams and dedicated immunisation booths have been strategically deployed across the sub-division to ensure uninterrupted access to vaccination services, particularly in geographically challenging areas.
Following the initial booth-based phase, healthcare supervisors and Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) will undertake door-to-door visits to identify and vaccinate any eligible child who may have missed the campaign, with the objective of achieving universal immunisation coverage.
Speaking on the occasion, the SDM commended the Health Department, medical personnel and frontline health workers for their commitment to implementing public health programmes under demanding terrain and weather conditions. He urged parents and guardians to ensure that every eligible child receives the Oral Polio Vaccine, emphasising that sustained public participation remains vital to preserving India’s polio-free status.
The Pulse Polio campaign forms part of the nationwide immunisation programme aimed at protecting children against poliomyelitis through universal administration of the Oral Polio Vaccine to all children under five years of age.
