KARGIL: Former CEC of LAHDC Leh and senior BJP leader Advocate Tashi Gyalson on Thursday addressed questions surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, explaining the process and responding to concerns and doubts raised in the public domain.
Gyalson spoke to the media in Kargil during an interaction focused on the electoral roll revision exercise. The Election Commission has described SIR as an exercise aimed at ensuring that eligible citizens are included in electoral rolls while ineligible persons are excluded.
During the interaction, Gyalson explained the SIR process and sought to clarify various concerns being raised over the revision of electoral rolls. He also addressed the political debate surrounding the exercise.
According to the press release, Gyalson said that opposition parties create confusion when initiatives associated with the BJP are undertaken for public benefit. This was presented as his view during the interaction.
The SIR process has become the subject of political debate in several parts of the country, with claims and counterclaims over its implementation and implications for electoral rolls. The Election Commission’s official voter services portal currently provides facilities related to SIR, including searching names in the last SIR, submitting documents against notices and voter registration.
