KARGIL: Sports and youth engagement remain central to Ladakh Police’s efforts to counter drug abuse and promote constructive community participation, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kargil Nitin Yadav said on Wednesday as the taekwondo championship organised under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) concluded at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) complex in Kargil.
Addressing the closing ceremony, the SSP said the Civic Action Programme, being implemented under the guidance of the Additional Director General of Police, Ladakh, aims to channelise the energy of young people towards productive pursuits through sports, awareness campaigns and community outreach initiatives.
The championship featured male and female competitors across weight categories ranging from 41 kg to 63 kg and formed part of a wider series of activities organised under CAP. According to the SSP, the programme included five outdoor sporting disciplines in addition to indoor competitions such as debates, painting and quiz contests.
Yadav said Ladakh Police has been consistently conducting awareness programmes across the region and intends to expand youth-centric initiatives in the coming months. He urged young people to remain engaged in positive activities and contribute towards building a healthy and responsible society.
The closing ceremony was attended by Brigadier Ashish Anil Joshi, Commander 121 Brigade, as Chief Guest, while Commander 24 Maratha Regiment, Suboth Smudar, attended as Guest of Honour. Senior police officers, athletes and sports enthusiasts were also present on the occasion.
In his address, Brigadier Joshi described sports as a discipline that shapes character, commitment and perseverance. He encouraged participants to make full use of available sporting infrastructure and continue striving for excellence in their chosen disciplines.
Medals, trophies and prizes were distributed among winners and participants in recognition of their performances during the championship.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters, Inayatullah, who congratulated the athletes and acknowledged the support of the Sports Authority of India and the Ladakh Taekwondo Association in successfully conducting the competition.
