LEH: A delegation representing the Stod region of Zanskar on Friday urged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership in Ladakh to ensure equitable representation for the region in the proposed council, while placing before the party a charter of demands highlighting long-standing administrative and governance concerns.
The delegation, comprising Nambardars from eight revenue villages extending from Rangdum to Rantaksha, called on BJP State President for the Union Territory of Ladakh, Tashi Gyalson Khachu. The delegation was led by Rigzin Tsewang, General Secretary of BJP Zanskar.
During the meeting, the representatives stated that although the Stod region is among the largest in Zanskar in terms of both geographical expanse and population, its considerable distance from the district headquarters continues to impede residents’ access to government services and administrative institutions.
The delegation maintained that the region’s remoteness has resulted in persistent difficulties in obtaining routine public services and engaging with government departments, affecting the timely delivery of administrative support.
Seeking political representation alongside administrative attention, the delegation appealed to the BJP leadership to secure adequate representation for the Stod region in the proposed council. It said such representation would enable the aspirations, developmental priorities and public concerns of the region to find appropriate space in the decision-making process.
The representatives argued that balanced participation in the proposed institutional framework would contribute to more inclusive governance and ensure that the needs of the Stod region receive due consideration in future policy and development initiatives.
The charter of demands was formally submitted to the BJP State President during the interaction.
