UoL celebrates I-Day in Leh and Kargil campuses

LEH/KARGIL: The Leh and Kargil campuses of the University of Ladakh celebrated the 80th Independence Day with flag-hoisting ceremonies, patriotic and cultural programmes, and calls for students to uphold constitutional values and contribute to nation-building.

At the Leh campus, Vice Chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha hoisted the National Flag in the presence of Registrar Priyanka Sengar, university officials, Deans, teaching and non-teaching staff and students. Students and teachers of the university’s adopted Government Middle School, Taru, also participated in the celebrations.

The ceremony was followed by the National Anthem and cultural presentations by students of Government Middle School, Taru, and the university. The performances showcased patriotic spirit and cultural diversity while providing a platform for young students to display their creativity and confidence.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Kushwaha paid tribute to freedom fighters and national leaders and said Independence Day was also an occasion to reflect on the responsibilities accompanying freedom.

He urged students and members of the university community to contribute to nation-building through knowledge, discipline, integrity, innovation and social responsibility. He also said joint participation by the university and the adopted school helped strengthen the institution’s engagement with the local community.

At the Kargil campus, the National Flag was hoisted by Dr. Mehboob Ali, In-charge Administration, in the presence of teaching and non-teaching staff, students and NCC cadets.

The ceremony was followed by the National Anthem and an address by Dr. Ali, who recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters and stressed the need to uphold freedom, democracy, unity, equality, justice, integrity and constitutional responsibility. He urged students to remain committed to education, ethical conduct, social responsibility and service to society and the nation.
