Suru Summer Fest: Mountain Biking challenge showcases Valley’s adventure tourism potential

SURU: Mountain biking took centre stage at Damsna on Thursday as cycling enthusiasts rode through the Suru Valley, with the challenge organised as part of the ongoing Suru Summer Fest to promote adventure tourism, outdoor recreation and greater public participation in the festival.

The Mountain Biking Challenge was flagged off by Joint Director Information and Deputy Director Tourism Mohd Taqi, JKAS, from Damsna. A large number of cycling enthusiasts participated, while local youth and residents gathered along the route as spectators.

The event sought to use cycling and outdoor sport to showcase the scenic landscape and tourism potential of Suru Valley, while encouraging residents and visitors to take part in recreational activities.

Officials said such sporting events could help position Suru Valley as an emerging destination for adventure, eco and rural tourism, while creating greater engagement between visitors and local communities.

The participation of cyclists and youth was appreciated by the officials, who said outdoor activities provide an avenue to promote the valley beyond conventional tourism and draw attention to its natural setting.

The cycling event forms part of the broader Suru Summer Fest, which brings together cultural, sporting, adventure and tourism-related activities. The festival is intended to provide visitors with an opportunity to experience the region’s natural environment, culture and hospitality.

With cycling enthusiasts joining local residents and youth in the event, the mountain biking challenge also added a participatory sporting element to the festival, linking recreational activity with the promotion of Suru Valley as a tourism destination.

The festival continues with a range of activities aimed at attracting visitors and encouraging wider community participation in the tourism potential of the Suru region.
