LEH: Residents of Wanla and Fotoksar have sought an E-Bus service connecting the villages with Leh, with local representatives approaching the Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) for a feasibility assessment and suitable timings to improve public transport connectivity in the area.
The demand was raised by Tenzin Dorjai Wamda, President of the Youth Association of Tarchit Padmachan Wanla, following requests from residents regarding the proposed E-Bus service.
A representation submitted to the Administrative Secretary-cum-Managing Director, SIDCO, Leh, has sought an E-Bus route from Leh to Wanla A, Wanla B and Fotoksar, with timings coordinated with the existing Leh-Khaltsi E-Bus service.
The proposed coordination is intended to allow residents to connect with the existing service, which departs Leh at around 8 am and returns from Khaltsi to Leh in the evening. According to the representation, synchronising the proposed route with these timings could make travel between Wanla, Fotoksar, Khaltsi and Leh more convenient.
The proposed service is expected to benefit students, government employees, patients, senior citizens, villagers and other daily passengers who currently have limited public transport options for travelling to and from Leh.
The representation also cited the potential environmental benefits of expanding E-Bus connectivity, besides providing a more accessible public transport option for residents of the villages.
Wamda said he and members of the Wanla Welfare Development Society met the concerned SIDCO Secretary to discuss the demand. He said the official assured them that action would be initiated on the request.
The representation has sought a feasibility assessment of the proposed route and appropriate timings in coordination with the existing Leh-Khaltsi E-Bus service.
