Stanzin Khando becomes the first figure skater from Ladakh selected to represent India at the Olympic Council of Asia’s elite training camp in Harbin, China.
LEH: Stanzin Khando B, a figure skater from Zanskar, has been selected to represent India at the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Figure Skating Camp in Harbin, China, becoming the first athlete from Ladakh to earn a place at the prestigious international training programme.
The camp, being held from July 28 to August 4, is jointly organised by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the International Skating Union (ISU) and brings together promising figure skaters from across Asia for advanced technical training and competitive exposure.
The announcement was made on Saturday by Ladakh Ice Skating Association (LISA) President Mohd Abbass Nordakh, who said Stanzin Khando has been included in the Indian contingent led by coach Natalie Falsgraf.
The selection marks a milestone for winter sports in Ladakh, with Stanzin Khando becoming the first figure skater from the Union Territory to represent the country at an OCA Figure Skating Camp. The achievement is expected to provide international-level exposure while reflecting the growing presence of athletes from the region in competitive winter sports.
Congratulating the young skater, Nordakh said the selection was a matter of pride for the Ladakh ice skating community and expressed confidence that her participation would encourage more young athletes in the region to pursue figure skating at higher levels of competition.
He extended his best wishes to Stanzin Khando for the camp and expressed hope that the experience would contribute to her sporting development while strengthening Ladakh’s representation in national and international winter sports events.
