DRASS: An estimated 7,000 mourners participated in the 25th Muharram Julus-e-Aza at Drass Headquarters on Saturday to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Sajjad (A.S.), with the religious procession concluding peacefully under extensive security and traffic arrangements put in place by the district administration and police.
Organised by the Jamiat-ul-Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil (JUIAK), the procession drew devotees from Drass, Kargil and adjoining areas, making it one of the major Muharram observances in the region. Men, women and youth marched along the designated route, paying homage to Imam Sajjad (A.S.), Imam Hussain (A.S.) and the martyrs of Karbala.
The procession was marked by the recitation of elegies and religious slogans, as mourners reflected on the enduring values associated with the events of Karbala, including justice, sacrifice, patience and steadfastness in the face of adversity.
Following the completion of the procession, religious sermons were delivered and special prayers were offered for peace, communal harmony, unity and the well-being of the nation.
Volunteers deployed by the organisers remained stationed along the route to assist participants and facilitate the smooth conduct of the procession.
The District Administration Drass, in coordination with Drass Police, implemented comprehensive security measures and traffic management plans to regulate vehicular movement and ensure the orderly conduct of the event. The arrangements enabled the procession to proceed without disruption, and no untoward incident was reported.
The annual Muharram procession continues to draw large congregations in the Drass region, serving as an occasion for religious observance and collective remembrance of the sacrifices associated with the Battle of Karbala.
