LEH: The personal physicians to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Dr. Tsetan D. Sadutshang and Dr. Tenzin Tsundue, on Saturday visited the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) at Devachan, where discussions centred on healthcare delivery in Ladakh, humanitarian service and the promotion of compassionate medical care in the Himalayan region.
The two physicians paid a courtesy call on Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena at the MIMC Sambodhi Retreat Centre. They were accompanied by Dr. Tsering Morup, Honorary Medical Superintendent of the Mahabodhi Karuna Charitable Hospital.
During the meeting, Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena enquired about the health and well-being of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and conveyed the gratitude of the people of Ladakh, particularly the MIMC Devachan community, for His Holiness’ visit to the region. He also offered prayers for the Dalai Lama’s continued good health and long life.
The interaction included discussions on healthcare challenges and the need to strengthen accessible and compassionate medical services in Ladakh. Dr. Tsetan D. Sadutshang appreciated the humanitarian initiatives undertaken by Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena, particularly in the fields of healthcare, education and welfare for underprivileged communities.
Following the meeting, the visiting delegation toured the MIMC Sambodhi Retreat Centre, where they were briefed on its meditation facilities and programmes aimed at promoting spiritual practice and personal well-being.
The delegation also visited the MIMC Buddha Park for World Peace, where they appreciated its vision of fostering peace, compassion and interfaith harmony, and conveyed their best wishes for the continued development of the initiative.
Later, the physicians visited the MIMC Karuna Charitable Hospital, where they interacted with doctors, nursing officers, paramedical staff and hospital administrators. They inspected various departments of the hospital and reviewed the charitable healthcare services being provided to local communities, particularly residents of remote areas.
Commending the institution’s work, Dr. Tsetan D. Sadutshang and Dr. Tenzin Tsundue appreciated Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena’s efforts to expand access to quality healthcare in Ladakh and acknowledged the commitment of the hospital’s medical personnel in delivering patient-centred services.
The visit concluded with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing compassionate healthcare, humanitarian service and holistic well-being, guided by the values of compassion and selfless service associated with the teachings of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
