LEH: The Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department of the Union Territory of Ladakh has proposed a schedule for revision of the electoral rolls for Panchayat Halqas ahead of the forthcoming Panchayat elections in the UT.

As per a communication, issued by the department to the Election Commission for UTs, the Panchayat Electoral Roll revised/updated last year has been proposed to be used as the mother roll for updating the electoral rolls for the forthcoming general elections to Panchayat Halqas in Ladakh.

Under the proposed schedule, the draft Panchayat Electoral Roll 2025 in Form PER-I is to be published on September 12. This will be followed by a period for filing claims and objections relating to addition, deletion, correction and transposition of names from September 12 to September 22.

To facilitate voters in the revision exercise, special camps will be organised at polling booth locations. Panchayat Election Booth Officers (PEBOs), including VLWs/MPWs/GRSs, along with Assembly-level Booth Level Officers, will remain available at the polling booths with requisite forms and Panchayat electoral rolls to guide electors.

The special camps have been scheduled for September 13, 15, 18 and 20, from 9.30 am to 4 pm. The exercise will subsequently move into the scrutiny stage, with Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) scheduled to dispose of claims and objections by September 24.

The final Panchayat Electoral Roll 2026 is proposed to be published on September 26, completing the electoral-roll revision process ahead of the Panchayat elections.
