LEH: The University of Ladakh’s Leh campus has launched a 100-day intensified tuberculosis (TB) elimination campaign, with Vice-Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha undergoing screening first to encourage participation and help dispel the stigma associated with the disease.
The campaign, titled ‘Jan Jan Ka Rakhe Dhyaan, TB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’, is being organised by the District TB Control Society, Leh, as part of the national mission to eliminate tuberculosis. It aims to expand screening and awareness across the university campus through the participation of students, faculty members, research scholars and administrative and support staff.
In an effort to build confidence in the screening process and encourage wider participation, Prof Kushwaha volunteered to undergo screening before other members of the university community. His participation was intended to reinforce the importance of preventive health checks and address concerns and stigma surrounding tuberculosis.
The health camp witnessed participation from various sections of the university, with students taking part in screening and awareness activities, while teaching staff joined the initiative to promote a healthier academic environment.
Administrative and support staff also underwent health checks, while research scholars participated in the camp and assisted with its coordination.
The university said the initiative reflected its commitment to national public health objectives, promoting a healthy campus environment and contributing to efforts to achieve a tuberculosis-free India.
