LEH: Former Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the BJP-led Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson was honoured with a memento by the Indo-Icelandic Business Association (IIBA) in recognition of his support towards fostering international cooperation and promoting Ladakh’s engagement with global development initiatives.
The memento, commemorating the recently concluded Indo-Icelandic Business and Cultural Conference held in Leh, was presented to Adv. Gyalson by Dr. Kunzes Dolma, Head of the IIBA Ladakh Chapter, and Ms. Tsering Angmo, a member of the chapter, on behalf of the association.
During the meeting, representatives of the IIBA Ladakh Chapter briefed Adv. Gyalson on the association’s initiative to establish a dedicated Ladakh Chapter aimed at strengthening business, cultural and developmental ties between India and Iceland. They also shared details of the successful visit of a high-level Icelandic delegation to Leh from June 17 to 21, 2026, which was organised to explore new avenues of bilateral cooperation and partnership.
The interaction focused on several sectors identified as having significant potential for collaboration between Ladakh and Iceland. These included geothermal and sustainable energy, responsible tourism, film production, healthcare, environmental conservation, innovation and start-up ecosystems, as well as knowledge exchange between Arctic and high-altitude mountain regions. The proposed collaborations are expected to support Ladakh’s long-term socio-economic growth while promoting sustainable and environmentally responsible development.
Appreciating the initiatives undertaken by the IIBA Ladakh Chapter, Adv. Gyalson lauded its efforts to position Ladakh as a partner in international cooperation and innovation. He expressed confidence that such engagements would open new opportunities for the Union Territory in diverse sectors and assured his continued support towards strengthening global partnerships that contribute to Ladakh’s sustainable development and economic progress.
The Indo-Icelandic Business and Cultural Conference, held earlier this month, marked a significant step in enhancing people-to-people contacts and exploring collaborative opportunities between India and Iceland, with Ladakh emerging as a key focal point for future cooperation in renewable energy, tourism, innovation and climate-resilient development.
