DRASS: Stressing the need for collective action to ensure effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, Deputy Commissioner Drass Imteeaz Kacho on Wednesday said sustained community participation is essential for preserving the region’s environment, as the district administration organised a cleanliness drive along the riverside at Masjid Gam.
The campaign, conducted under the Deputy Commissioner’s directions, was led and supervised by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Drass, Vishal Atri, with officials from various government departments and local residents participating in the exercise.
The drive focused on removing accumulated waste from the riverside, cleaning public spaces and creating awareness about the importance of protecting water bodies through responsible waste disposal and improved sanitation practices.
Officials collected and scientifically disposed of solid waste during the campaign, with the administration stating that the initiative was aimed at preserving the area’s ecological balance and natural landscape.
Addressing the participants, SDM Vishal Atri said maintaining the cleanliness of rivers and public spaces is a shared responsibility and appealed to residents to refrain from littering, dispose of waste responsibly and support the administration’s environmental conservation efforts.
The Deputy Commissioner said similar cleanliness drives would be organised regularly across the district with the participation of government departments, educational institutions, stakeholders and local communities to strengthen sanitation and environmental awareness.
He also appreciated the efforts of the SDM for leading the campaign and acknowledged the contribution of officials and local residents who participated in the drive.
