LEH: Drinking water scarcity and concerns over water quality dominated a public outreach programme organised by the BJP Leh District in Spang Chenmo, where local women urged the party leadership to facilitate early intervention to address the long-pending issue.

The meeting, led by BJP District President Rigzin Chubi and District Joint Secretary Thinless Chosdup, saw women, particularly from Chuteh Rantak Mohalla, highlight the shortage of potable water and the poor quality of the existing supply, describing it as a pressing concern affecting daily life.

Responding to the grievances, Rigzin Chubi assured the gathering that the matter would be taken up with former Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyaltson, for appropriate intervention. He said the concerns raised by the residents would be pursued with the relevant authorities.

During the interaction, Chubi also referred to development works undertaken in the locality under the leadership of the former CEC, including the construction of a community hall, the ongoing beautification of Spang Chenmo Park with a gymnasium and other infrastructure initiatives in the Leh Phudo region.

The meeting also witnessed the formation of the Spang Chenmo Ama Tsokspa, a local women’s body. Khati Malo Barzi was nominated as its President, while Razia Bano was nominated as the General Secretary. BJP leaders said the process for formal registration of the organisation would be initiated shortly.

According to the party, the outreach concluded with participants reiterating the need for timely resolution of drinking water issues and expressing support for continued engagement between public representatives and local communities on civic and developmental concerns.
