DRASS: More than 100 girl students from four educational institutions participated in a self-defence sensitisation programme organised by Government Degree College (GDC) Drass at Army Goodwill School Drass under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) Gender Inclusive Equity Initiative.
Students from Army Goodwill School, Himababs Public School, Gulshane Raza Public School and Model Public School Muradbaugh took part in the programme, which focused on practical self-defence techniques, personal safety, preparedness and confidence-building.
The training was conducted by internationally acclaimed resource persons Ritesh Tiwari and Mana Mandelkar. The resource persons demonstrated practical techniques and guided the students through hands-on sessions aimed at improving their ability to respond to situations involving personal safety.
Introducing the resource persons, Principal GDC Drass, Prof. MNM Shabani, highlighted their contribution to self-defence training and stated that they had trained more than two lakh students so far.
The programme also featured an awareness component under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, organised in collaboration with the Tribal Research Institute, University of Ladakh. Participants took a pledge against drug abuse and affirmed their commitment to staying away from intoxicating substances and contributing towards a healthy and drug-free society.
Prof. Shabani thanked the Commanding Officer, 16 Grenadiers, Drass, for facilitating the programme and appreciated the participating schools for their involvement.
The programme formed part of GDC Drass’s broader efforts under PM-USHA to promote gender-inclusive initiatives, self-defence awareness and responsible citizenship among students.
