LEH: Responding to an urgent medical evacuation request from the Union Territory of Ladakh, the Indian Air Force (IAF) launched a C-130 transport aircraft at short notice to airlift a critically ill 70-year-old Ladakhi native from Leh to Chandigarh for advanced medical treatment.

The mission was carried out under pitch-dark conditions, amid the challenging Himalayan terrain and harsh weather conditions, making the evacuation a demanding aviation operation. The IAF crew employed Night Vision Goggles (NVGs) to execute the mission safely, enabling the aircraft to operate in extremely low-light conditions.

The timely evacuation ensured that the critically ill patient could be moved out of Ladakh without delay and provided access to immediate life-saving medical care in Chandigarh. The operation once again highlighted the Indian Air Force’s capability to undertake complex missions in the high-altitude Himalayan region, while underscoring its commitment to humanitarian assistance and emergency response whenever and wherever required.

The successful evacuation stands as another example of the IAF’s readiness to respond swiftly to critical situations and provide assistance to civilians in distress, even under some of the most challenging operational conditions.
