AASUL backs Reservation Rules amendment, urges recruitment in Agri Schools and KVKs

LEH: The Agriculture and Allied Students Union of Ladakh (AASUL) on Wednesday welcomed the revision of teaching posts under the UT Ladakh Reservation (Amendment) Rules, 2025, describing it as a step towards ensuring greater opportunities for local candidates and a more transparent recruitment process in higher education.

In a statement, AASUL President Dr. Thinlay Nurbu said the amendment has raised expectations for the early recruitment of long-pending teaching positions in the University of Ladakh, particularly in the Schools of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at the Leh and Kargil campuses and the Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs).

The Union expressed hope that once the University re-advertises its teaching posts under the revised rules, the sanctioned positions in the agriculture schools and KVKs would also be notified, enabling qualified scholars and graduates in Agriculture and Allied Sciences to compete for academic, research and scientific positions.

According to AASUL, the absence of faculty recruitment over the past seven years has left many qualified scholars facing prolonged uncertainty. The Union said filling the vacant posts would provide the first meaningful opportunity in years for local candidates to pursue academic careers within the University of Ladakh.

The organisation expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena for the amendment. It also acknowledged the contributions of Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, P. S. Lokhande, Secretary, Higher Education, Bhanu Prabha, and University of Ladakh Vice Chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha.

AASUL further thanked former Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, and BJP Ladakh President Tashi Gyalson Khachu for supporting the demand.

The Union said the amendment would strengthen higher education in Ladakh by promoting equitable recruitment while expanding opportunities for local scholars in the academic and research sectors.
