GDC Drass holds awareness program on menstrual health at GHSS Bhimbet

DRASS: Government Degree College (GDC), Drass, on Wednesday organised a menstrual health and hygiene awareness outreach programme at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Bhimbet, as part of its ongoing PM-USHA workshop series aimed at promoting awareness among adolescents.

The programme sought to extend discussions on menstrual health and hygiene beyond the college campus by engaging school students on issues related to menstrual well-being, personal hygiene and healthy practices.

The technical session was conducted by resource persons Ananya and Nitin from the Charkha Development Communication Network. Through interactive presentations, they addressed topics including menstrual health, personal hygiene, nutrition, safe menstrual hygiene practices and common myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation.

The speakers encouraged students to participate freely in discussions, creating an open and supportive environment where they could raise questions and seek clarity on issues often associated with social stigma.

Students participated actively throughout the session, engaging in discussions that enhanced their understanding of menstrual health, hygiene and overall well-being.

Assistant Professor Archo Fatima of GDC Drass delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the Principal, staff and students of GHSS Bhimbet for their cooperation. She underscored the importance of building awareness among adolescents and fostering an environment where menstruation can be discussed openly without stigma or misconceptions.

The Principal of GHSS Bhimbet appreciated the efforts of GDC Drass and the resource persons from the Charkha Development Communication Network for organising the awareness programme, describing menstrual health education as essential for the health, well-being and empowerment of adolescents.
