DC Office leads phased rollout of AEBAS in Leh
LEH: The District Administration, Leh on Friday launched the Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS), introducing a digital, face authentication-based attendance mechanism for government employees as part of a broader push to strengthen transparency, accountability and digital governance across public offices.
The rollout was formally launched by Deputy Commissioner Leh, Romil Singh Donk, from the DC Office, which has become the first government establishment in the district to adopt the new attendance system. The initiative has been undertaken under the leadership of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh and the guidance of the Chief Secretary of the Union Territory.
The Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System allows employees to register their attendance through a designated mobile application using facial recognition technology linked to the Aadhaar authentication framework. The system records attendance with the date and time before securely transmitting the data to a centralised server for monitoring and reporting.
According to the administration, the digital platform offers real-time attendance recording, synchronised data management and a centralised dashboard to facilitate monitoring while improving administrative efficiency.
Officials said employees can access the AadhaarBAS application and associated platforms through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store to mark their attendance.
The administration said the adoption of face authentication provides a secure and contactless attendance mechanism, reducing the scope for impersonation or proxy attendance while minimising the administrative burden associated with manual attendance registers.
The process of employee registration and installation of the designated mobile application has already begun within the prescribed timeline. Following its implementation at the DC Office, the system will be extended to all government offices and institutions across the district in a phased manner.
The administration said technical support and necessary guidance would be provided to ensure a smooth transition to the new digital attendance system.
Officials described the initiative as part of the administration’s continuing efforts to adopt secure digital technologies aimed at improving governance, enhancing administrative efficiency and reinforcing accountability across government offices.
