LEH: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday claimed an expansion of its organisational base in Leh after inducting senior citizens, youth and several supporters of the Congress during a membership drive held in Upper Leh, where the party also announced fresh appointments to its local organisational structure.
The programme, organised by the BJP’s Leh district unit, was led by District President Rigzin Chubi and attended by former Minority Commission member Rinchen Lamo, BJP Vice President Shema Phuntsok Angmo, BJP Mahila Morcha State Executive Member Eshay Angmo, Upper Leh Booth President Phuntsok Angchuk Shuma and BJP District Joint Secretary and Lower Leh Mandal President Thinless Chosdup.
According to the BJP, those joining the party expressed confidence in the leadership of former Chairman of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyaltson, and BJP Ladakh President Tashi Gyalson Khachu. The party said the new entrants cited its development initiatives and public outreach in Leh as factors behind their decision.
Addressing the gathering, Rigzin Chubi outlined development works undertaken across Leh and referred to initiatives implemented under the Leh Phudo programme. He said the party would continue to focus on infrastructure development, public welfare and organisational expansion across the district.
The event also included an interaction with local residents, who raised issues related to civic amenities, development requirements and community aspirations before the party leadership. BJP leaders said the exercise reflected the party’s efforts to engage directly with residents and gather public feedback on local concerns.
During the programme, the party announced the appointment of Stanzin Tsewang Doktuk as Mandal President, Kunzes Angmo Shuma as Mahila Mandal President and Tsewang Namgyal Tsana as Mandal Youth President as part of its organisational strengthening exercise.
The programme concluded with party workers and supporters reaffirming their commitment to expanding the BJP’s presence in Leh and supporting its development agenda under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
