LEH: BJP Ladakh president Tashi Gyaltson Khachu on Monday welcomed the official notification of Changthang as a separate district with its own council while attending the inauguration of the Zimchung of His Holiness Drikung Skyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche at Chushul.
Khachu, who attended the ceremony along with former Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, said the BJP Ladakh unit remained committed to addressing the genuine concerns and aspirations of the people. His remarks came as the notification granting Changthang separate district status with its own council was welcomed at the gathering.
The ceremony was attended by His Eminence Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche, monks, local representatives and a large number of residents. People from Chushul also presented cultural performances as part of the programme.
Khachu congratulated the people of Chushul and reiterated the BJP’s commitment to development and to addressing issues concerning the region. The separate district status for Changthang, he said, was being welcomed by the people of the area.
Adv. Tashi Gyalson recalled developmental initiatives undertaken for Chushul during the sixth LAHDC Leh and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening governance and development in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche called upon people to be responsible and compassionate citizens. He particularly urged young people to stay away from drugs and underlined the importance of holistic education.
The programme brought together religious figures, political representatives, local representatives and residents of Chushul, with the inauguration accompanied by cultural performances reflecting the participation of the local community.
