LEH: Leaders and workers of the BJP’s Ladakh unit on Thursday paid tribute to the four people who died during the September 24, 2025 violence in Leh, a year after the incident that followed protests over demands concerning Ladakh’s political and constitutional safeguards.
BJP office-bearers gathered to remember those who lost their lives in the incident. Speakers described the deceased as having sacrificed their lives for what they termed the aspirations of the people of Ladakh, including demands related to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils and constitutional safeguards.
The September 24, 2025 incident in Leh had resulted in the deaths of four people following a serious law-and-order situation and police action. The Ministry of Home Affairs subsequently ordered a judicial inquiry headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice B S Chauhan to examine the circumstances leading to the violence, the police action and the deaths.
Among those present at Thursday’s tribute programme were BJP Ladakh vice-presidents Gyal P Wangyal and Tonyot Tashi, state general secretary Stanzin Lakpa, Chubi district president Sonam Regzin, Sham district president Konchok Ishay and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha state president Tenles Chumik, besides other party leaders and workers.
The speakers said the contribution and sacrifice of those who died would not be forgotten and expressed solidarity with their families.
The BJP leaders also offered condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength for those affected by the loss.
The tribute comes as the judicial inquiry into the September 2025 incident remains an important part of the aftermath. In March this year, the administration said the inquiry had examined 40 administrative witnesses and received 45 affidavits from members of the public, with the examination of civilian witnesses to follow.
Earlier this month, the Ladakh administration also sanctioned a compensation package of ₹1.52 crore for the families of the four deceased and people injured in the violence. The package includes ₹15 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased person, ₹3 lakh for those who suffered major injuries and ₹1 lakh for those with minor injuries.
