LEH/NEW DELHI: The Centre on Monday appointed senior IPS officer Anand Jain as the new Director General of Police (DGP), Ladakh, transferring him from Jammu and Kashmir with immediate effect.
An order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said Jain, a 1999-batch AGMUT cadre officer, has been posted as DGP, Ladakh, until further orders following approval by the competent authority.
The appointment places a seasoned police officer at the helm of the Union Territory’s police force and comes as Ladakh continues to navigate evolving security, policing and administrative challenges across its vast and strategically sensitive terrain.
The MHA order, issued from New Delhi, directed Jain’s transfer from Jammu and Kashmir to Ladakh with immediate effect. The communication was routed through the Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, and circulated to the administrations of Ladakh and other AGMUT cadre jurisdictions.
Jain’s posting assumes importance as Ladakh, since becoming a Union Territory in 2019, has witnessed an expanding administrative framework alongside growing requirements in law enforcement, public security and inter-agency coordination. As police chief, he will head the Union Territory’s policing apparatus and oversee matters relating to law and order, security management and operational preparedness.
The order, however, did not specify the tenure of the new DGP, stating that the appointment would remain effective until further directions from the Ministry.
With the latest posting, Ladakh gets a new police chief as the Centre continues its deployment of AGMUT cadre officers across Union Territories and allied administrative jurisdictions.
