Farmers, Cooperatives participate in PM-KISAN awareness drive at Kargil

KARGIL: Farmers and representatives of cooperative societies from across Kargil participated in a PM-KISAN awareness programme organised at the Office of the Assistant Registrar Cooperative Societies on Monday, aimed at disseminating information on government welfare initiatives and strengthening rural livelihood opportunities.

The programme brought together members of Sarithang Cooperative Society, Marketing Society Kargil, Ladakh Aquaculture Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO), Gulbahar Milk and Dairy Cooperative Society, and representatives associated with the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM).

Participants were briefed on the benefits available under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme and were informed about the role of cooperative institutions in advancing agricultural development, dairy farming, aquaculture and rural entrepreneurship. The outreach programme also focused on expanding awareness regarding government-backed initiatives intended to improve farmers’ income and socio-economic conditions.

Discussions during the event centred on increasing farmer participation in cooperative activities, improving access to markets, and creating sustainable livelihood avenues for rural communities. Stakeholders exchanged views on strengthening institutional support mechanisms to help farmers leverage emerging opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors.

Speakers underscored the contribution of cooperative societies and farmer producer organisations in fostering community-led development and broadening economic opportunities in rural areas. The deliberations highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing challenges faced by farmers and enhancing their participation in the local economy.

The programme concluded with appreciation for participating farmers, cooperative societies and other stakeholders for their involvement in the awareness campaign and their continued engagement in initiatives aimed at strengthening the rural economy of Kargil district.
