DDAC Leh takes anti-drug campaign to Changthang

LEH: The District De-Addiction Centre (DDAC), Leh, conducted an extensive awareness campaign across the Changthang region under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah, reaching students, teachers, parents and community members through a series of anti-drug awareness programmes held from June 15 to 20.

The week-long initiative covered Government Higher Secondary Schools and High Schools in Tangtse, Sato Kargyam, Chushul, Anley, Puga, Nyoma, Chumathang and Liktsay, alongside dedicated outreach sessions for local communities and parents.

During the programmes, students were sensitised to the adverse consequences of drug and substance abuse, the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles and their role in fostering a society free from addiction. Interactive sessions also enabled teachers to share concerns and experiences related to substance abuse prevention among adolescents.

Separate awareness meetings with parents focused on positive parenting practices, effective communication with children, recognising early warning signs of risky behaviour and the role of families in preventing substance abuse at the grassroots level.

The campaign witnessed active participation from students, teachers, parents, village representatives and community members, reflecting a collective commitment towards addressing the challenges posed by drug abuse in society.

As part of the initiative, participants took the Nasha Mukt Bharat Pledge, reaffirming their resolve to stay away from narcotic substances and work towards the vision of a Drug-Free Ladakh and Drug-Free India.

The awareness drive was facilitated by the DDAC Leh team comprising Manager-cum-Incharge Nilza Angmo, Project Coordinator Rigzin Yangdol, Trainer-cum-Supervisor Deachen Chuskit and Mepham Yangdol, who conducted the sessions and engaged with participants throughout the campaign.
