Inaugurates new SSP Office at Padum
PADUM: Reaffirming the Ladakh Police’s commitment to responsive, transparent and community-oriented policing, Director General of Police (DGP) Anand Jain on Saturday assured residents of Zanskar that every genuine public grievance would receive due consideration as he inaugurated the newly established Office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Zanskar, during his maiden three-day official visit to the district.
Addressing a public interaction programme at Police Station Padum, Jain said the police would continue to strengthen policing infrastructure, improve law and order, and ensure efficient public service delivery across the district. He stressed that close coordination between the police, civil administration and local communities remains essential for maintaining peace, harmony and public confidence.
Earlier, the DGP inaugurated the SSP Office at Padum in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Zanskar Omkar Rajendra Gundage (IAS), SSP Zanskar Rigzin Sandup, office-bearers of the Zanskar Buddhist Association, Zanskar Gonpa Association, Lambardar Association, All Zanskar Trade Alliance, representatives of Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam Zanskar, elected representatives, senior police officers, civil administration officials, media personnel and members of the public.
During the interaction, representatives of various organisations placed before the DGP issues relating to policing, public safety, traffic management and the district’s security requirements. Jain assured them that their concerns would be examined and addressed in coordination with the concerned agencies.
As part of his outreach programme, the DGP also interacted with senior citizens, political representatives, religious leaders, media persons and members of civil society, reiterating the importance of public participation in strengthening policing and maintaining social harmony.
The visit also took him to the Tourist Check Post (TCP) at Gonbo Rangjon in Kargyak village, where he met residents of the Lungnak region and heard their concerns regarding policing, connectivity, public safety and other local issues. He assured them that the Ladakh Police would extend all possible support within its jurisdiction while working closely with the civil administration to resolve genuine public concerns. The three-day tour is aimed at strengthening coordination between the police, civil administration and local stakeholders, while expanding institutional outreach and improving police services in the remote district of Zanskar.
