LEH: The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Leh, on Monday commenced a five-day intensive training programme for elementary school teachers aimed at strengthening classroom teaching in Mathematics and Environmental Studies (EVS) through innovative and activity-based pedagogical practices aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Organised in collaboration with knowledge partners Ritanjali and Pallavan Learning Systems, the programme brings together teachers handling Classes III to V from schools across Leh district for a series of interactive sessions focused on improving conceptual understanding and classroom engagement.
The initiative seeks to equip teachers with contemporary teaching strategies that promote experiential learning, conceptual clarity and child-centred education, while reinforcing foundational literacy and numeracy among young learners.
Resource persons from Ritanjali and Pallavan Learning Systems are conducting specialised sessions on innovative pedagogies for Mathematics, with emphasis on play-based and experiential learning to strengthen foundational numeracy. Parallel sessions on Environmental Studies focus on exploratory teaching methods that encourage students to connect classroom concepts with everyday experiences.
Designed as an intensive professional development programme, the training incorporates interactive workshops, collaborative discussions and hands-on activities, enabling participants to adopt practical classroom techniques that can improve learning outcomes.
According to the organisers, the programme also aims to familiarise teachers with instructional approaches envisioned under the NEP 2020, fostering classrooms that encourage inquiry, participation and experiential learning rather than rote instruction.
Teachers representing schools from different parts of Leh district are participating in the capacity-building initiative, exchanging classroom experiences and exploring innovative methods to make Mathematics and EVS more engaging and accessible for students.
