DIET concludes Science training with practical learning tools for Teachers

LEH: The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Leh, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, on Thursday concluded a three-day cascading programme for Science and Mathematics teachers, with participating educators receiving Mini Science Labs to strengthen activity-based classroom learning.

The training programme, held from July 27 to 29 at DIET Leh, brought together teachers from the Leh, Kharu and Durbuk education zones and focused on enhancing classroom practices in Science and Mathematics through experiential and competency-based learning approaches.

As part of the initiative, IISER Pune distributed Mini Science Labs to all participants to promote scientific inquiry among students and improve the teaching-learning process at the middle school level through practical demonstrations and hands-on activities.

The valedictory session was attended by S.D. Namgial, Principal, DIET Leh, who congratulated the participants on completing the programme and underscored the role of teachers in cultivating scientific curiosity among young learners.

He encouraged teachers to integrate the Mini Science Labs into classroom instruction to simplify scientific concepts, promote experiential learning and make Science and Mathematics lessons more engaging for students.

One of the highlights of the programme was the participation of indigenous resource persons from Leh district, who conducted sessions on Science and Mathematics using innovative, low-cost and locally relevant teaching methods. Their demonstrations showcased practical classroom techniques aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and competency-based education.

According to DIET Leh, the programme concluded with a reaffirmation of its partnership with IISER Pune to strengthen teachers’ professional competencies and improve the quality of Science and Mathematics education across the district.
