Secretary Bhanu treks to remote Schools in Drass; reviews facilities

DRASS: Administrative Secretary, School Education Department, UT Ladakh, Bhanu Prabha, IAS, on Thursday conducted an extensive inspection of government schools across Drass district, reviewing academic standards, infrastructure and ongoing development works while assuring local communities that education-related concerns would receive priority attention.

The visit covered Government High School Kharboo, PM SHRI Government High School Thasgam, Government Model Middle School Dongchik and Government High School Kaksar, where the Administrative Secretary assessed the academic environment and the status of infrastructure and developmental initiatives being undertaken by the department.

In a demonstration of the administration’s outreach to geographically remote areas, Bhanu Prabha undertook an approximately one-hour trek to reach the schools at Kharboo and Dongchik, where accessibility remains challenging. The visit formed part of the School Education Department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen educational services in remote and border areas of the Union Territory.

During the inspection, the Administrative Secretary held interactions with students, teachers, parents, School Management Committees and members of the local community to obtain first-hand feedback on school functioning, infrastructure, learning facilities and developmental requirements.

Community members and school authorities highlighted issues relating to education and infrastructure, besides offering suggestions for further improvement. Responding to their concerns, Bhanu Prabha assured them that all genuine grievances and developmental requirements would be examined and addressed on priority.

Parents and local residents welcomed the visit, describing it as an encouraging step towards improving educational facilities in remote villages. School authorities also appreciated the continued engagement of the School Education Department and the UT Administration with institutions located in difficult terrain.

According to the department, the field visit reflects its continued focus on strengthening educational infrastructure, improving learning outcomes and ensuring that children in remote and border regions have equitable access to quality education in line with the objectives of the UT Administration.
