LEH: Students of Government Middle School Phey got an opportunity to explore Physics, Chemistry and Biology through hands-on experiments and interactive demonstrations as the DIET Leh Mobile STEM Lab visited the school as part of its continuing outreach programme across Ladakh.
The visit was aimed at taking experiential and activity-based learning beyond conventional classroom instruction and enabling students to understand scientific and mathematical concepts through practical demonstrations.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of DIET Leh Principal Sonam Dorjey Namgail and Head of the Science Department Tsering Yangdol. Science Resource Persons Chetna Sharma, Kunzes Dolma and Rashida Parveen conducted the STEM sessions.
During the programme, students participated in a range of activity-based experiments and demonstrations covering different areas of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. They observed experiments, raised questions and explored scientific concepts through direct engagement with the activities.
The interactive sessions were designed to encourage logical reasoning, problem-solving, creativity, scientific thinking and collaborative learning among the students.
The outreach also received a practical boost with DIET Leh presenting a set of laboratory equipment to Government Middle School Phey. The equipment is intended to expand the school’s capacity to conduct science experiments and provide students with more opportunities for hands-on learning.
The Headmaster of Government Middle School Phey welcomed the initiative and appreciated DIET Leh’s efforts to take practical and innovative STEM education to schools.
She noted that such programmes enable students to move beyond textbook-based instruction and engage with scientific concepts through direct observation and experimentation.
The visit forms part of DIET Leh’s continuing STEM Lab outreach programme, through which the institution is seeking to expand experiential, activity-based and innovative learning opportunities across schools in Ladakh.
Through its Mobile STEM Lab initiative, DIET Leh aims to nurture curiosity and creativity among young learners while developing their interest in science and technology through practical learning experiences.
