Dr Iftikhar opens DSHO Office in Zanskar, calls for better services to livestock owners

ZANSKAR: The Sheep Husbandry Department, UT Ladakh, has strengthened its administrative and field presence in Zanskar with the establishment of a dedicated District Sheep Husbandry Officer’s (DSHO) office, inaugurated on Tuesday by Department Director Dr Iftikhar Hussain during his visit to the district.

Dr Hussain, accompanied by Dr Tundup Namgyal, DSHO Leh, inaugurated the newly established office and reviewed the functioning of the department and livestock development programmes being implemented in Zanskar.

The Director inspected the new office and interacted with officers and staff to assess departmental activities and the delivery of livestock-related services in the district.

Dr Asif Hussain, DSHO Zanskar, welcomed the visiting officials and briefed the Director on the functioning of the newly established office and the various livestock development activities being undertaken in the district.

During the visit, Dr Hussain also welcomed Dr Nasir Hussain, the newly posted Livestock Development Officer (LDO), Zanskar, and wished him success in his new assignment.

The Director held discussions with departmental officers on issues concerning livestock development and sought feedback on field-level implementation of programmes and services.

He directed officials to maintain regular contact with livestock owners and ensure that veterinary and livestock services are delivered in a timely manner, particularly to those dependent on the department for technical and veterinary support.

Dr Hussain also stressed the need for effective implementation of departmental schemes and programmes and directed officials to ensure that their benefits reach livestock owners at the grassroots level.

He appreciated the work undertaken by departmental officers and staff and called for continued efforts to improve the reach and quality of livestock services across Zanskar.

The establishment of the district-level office is expected to provide a more direct administrative and service-delivery mechanism for livestock owners in the region, while enabling the department to coordinate development programmes and field services from within Zanskar.

The visit concluded with directions to officers and staff to continue working towards the welfare of livestock owners and strengthen the delivery of livestock and veterinary services in the district.
