DKOA bids farewell to Jt Director YSS Zubdavi, credits him with expanding Ladakh Sports infra

KARGIL: The District Kargil Olympic Association (DKOA) on Sunday accorded a farewell to Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, with sports associations and stakeholders crediting his tenure with expanding sports infrastructure, strengthening sporting institutions and widening opportunities for young athletes across Ladakh.

Sports representatives and activists, including Vice President of Ice Hockey Association UT Ladakh Mohd Amin Polo, General Secretary Ladakh Taekwondo Association Anayat Ali, Incharge SAI Centre Kargil Ghulam Mustafa, Syed Roholloah Mossavi of Ilya Production and DKOA General Secretary Syed Mehraj Uddin Shah, attended the farewell.

Speakers described Zubdavi as a major force behind the expansion of sports activities in remote and rural areas, particularly for his efforts to strengthen sports associations and create opportunities for athletes at the grassroots level.

His tenure in the Youth Services and Sports Department saw three editions of the LG Cup Horse Polo and two editions of the LG Ice Hockey Championship. A State-level Snow Ski Championship was also held for the first time at Yakza Umba in March 2026.

He was also associated with two editions of the Khelo India Winter Games in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India, while the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence was established in Leh. Sports equipment worth around Rs 4 crore was distributed among Ice Hockey clubs in Leh and Kargil.

More than 200 students participated in School Games Federation of India championships in different states during the period, winning gold, silver and bronze medals for Ladakh.

Zubdavi, who joined government service after qualifying the J&K Combined Competitive Services Examination in 1999, held several administrative assignments before serving as Director Rural Development, Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and later Joint Director Youth Services and Sports in Ladakh.

Participants credited him with leaving an institutional legacy in Ladakh’s sporting sector and wished him success and good health in his future endeavours.
