I-Day celebrations in Turtuk feature first NCC Parade, Border region gets Ambulance

TURTUK: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at Government Higher Secondary School, Turtuk, with schools from the border belt participating in the celebrations and NCC cadets taking part in the parade for the first time.

The National Flag was unfurled by Naib Tehsildar, Turtuk, Abdul Rehman Ashoor, who also took the salute of the ceremonial parade.

Schools from the border village of Thang to Chalunkha participated in the programme, bringing together students, teachers, staff and members of the local community for the Independence Day celebrations.

The participation of NCC cadets from Government Higher Secondary School, Turtuk, and Government Higher Secondary School, Tyakshi, marked a new feature of the annual celebrations. The cadets took part in the parade, adding a disciplined and ceremonial character to the event.

Students from the participating schools presented cultural programmes, patriotic songs and other performances, showcasing their talent and reflecting the cultural heritage of the region.

A major development during the programme was the handing over of an ambulance for the Turtuk region by Veenu World Travel Company through Wangchuk Shali under an initiative associated with Vibrant Village Tyakshi.

The ambulance is expected to provide medical support to residents of the border region, particularly during emergencies, where timely access to healthcare can be critical.

The programme concluded with the distribution of consolation prizes among participating performers in recognition of their enthusiasm and contribution to the celebrations.

The participation of schools and residents from across the border belt reflected the collective spirit of the occasion and reaffirmed the community’s commitment to national unity and civic values.
