The mediation facility will be available at the Mediation Centre, District Court, Melongthang, Leh, with proceedings to be conducted through physical, online or hybrid modes, depending on the convenience of the parties and in accordance with the prescribed Standard Operating Procedure.
The drive covers a broad range of disputes that contain elements of settlement, including matrimonial disputes, accident claims, cheque bounce cases, compoundable criminal cases, consumer disputes, debt recovery and SARFAESI matters.
Execution proceedings and arbitration matters under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act are also eligible for referral, along with commercial disputes, service cases, partition matters, eviction cases, land acquisition cases, labour disputes and other suitable civil cases.
The initiative provides litigants an alternative avenue to resolve disputes through mediation where the nature of the matter permits settlement, potentially avoiding prolonged litigation.
The DLSA has advised interested parties to approach the Mediation Centre at the District Court, Melongthang, Leh, or contact the office of the District Legal Services Authority during working hours for information on the procedure and scheduling of mediation proceedings.
