DRASS: Government Degree College (GDC) Drass has concluded a three-day Self-Defence Workshop under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) Gender Inclusive Equity Initiative, with students receiving practical training in personal safety alongside awareness sessions aimed at promoting confidence, preparedness and responsible citizenship.
The workshop, held from August 20 to 22, concluded with a valedictory ceremony at the college. As part of the programme, self-defence training was provided to college students, while sensitisation sessions were conducted at High School Kaksar, Higher Secondary School Bhimbhat, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Drass and Army Goodwill School Drass.
Internationally acclaimed resource persons Ritesh Tiwari and Mana Mandelkar conducted the training sessions, imparting practical self-defence techniques and guidance on personal safety, preparedness and confidence-building. Students participated in hands-on sessions during the workshop.
The programme also included an awareness component under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, organised in collaboration with District Police Drass and Tribal Research Institute, University of Ladakh. Participants took a pledge against drug abuse and committed themselves to staying away from intoxicating substances and contributing towards a healthy and drug-free society.
During the valedictory ceremony, Principal GDC Drass, Prof. MNM Shabani, presented mementoes to the resource persons in recognition of their contribution to the workshop. Certificates were also distributed among participants for their active participation and successful completion of the training.
Drass Online and CRS 90.4 FM were presented certificates of recognition for their role as media partners in conducting podcast programmes, while Gulistan News and Rising Ladakh were appreciated for their continued promotion of college events.
In his concluding remarks, Prof. Shabani appreciated the resource persons, faculty members, participating schools and students for their involvement in the programme. He said initiatives combining self-defence, awareness and social responsibility could help empower young people and equip them to make informed and responsible choices.
The workshop concluded with GDC Drass reiterating its focus on skill development, gender-inclusive initiatives, social awareness and community-oriented programmes aimed at the overall development and empowerment of students.
