GHS Chumathang tops Leh District Folk Dance competition, GHS Matho second

LEH: Government High School Chumathang secured the first position in the district-level folk dance competition for high schools of Leh district, held at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Leh, on Saturday.

Government High School Matho finished second, while Government High School Liker secured the third position in the competition.

The event brought together high schools from across Leh district, with students using folk dance to present messages centred on health, social responsibility, environmental protection and personal well-being.

The themes prescribed for the 2026 competition covered a broad range of issues, including environmental protection and the principles of reuse, reduction, refusal and recycling; healthy growth; emotional well-being and mental health; interpersonal relationships; responsible citizenship; and gender equality.

The performances also addressed nutrition, health and sanitation, prevention and management of substance misuse, healthy lifestyles, reproductive health and HIV prevention, safety against violence and injuries, and the safe use of the internet, gadgets and media.

The competition thus brought together cultural expression and awareness-oriented themes, with participating students using traditional folk dance as a medium to communicate messages on health, safety, environmental responsibility and social well-being.

The event at DIET Leh provided a platform for students to combine cultural performance with issues relevant to their everyday lives and wider responsibilities as young citizens.
