JTN calls for expedite completion of pending projects; urges united fight against drug abuse

> People of Zanskar accord grand felicitation to former Ladakh MP

ZANSKAR: Former Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal was accorded a grand public felicitation by the people of Zanskar at Sani Spang on Monday in recognition of the development initiatives undertaken during his tenure as MP.

The public reception, organised by the JTN Fan Club of Zanskar, witnessed participation from people representing different sections of society, including members from across political affiliations. The gathering reflected public appreciation for the developmental works carried out in the region during Namgyal’s tenure in Parliament.

Representatives of the Zanskar Buddhist Association, Zanskar Gonpa Association, Zanskar Nambardar Association, Zanskar Students’ Union, Ama Tsogspas from various villages and several social and community organisations attended the programme and acknowledged his service towards the development of Zanskar.

The event was also attended by prominent personalities, including Gyalpo Pibiting, Skalzang Wangyal Gara, Nawang Tashi Akshow, Tashi Dorjey Sani, Stanzin Chosgyal Skyagam and Stanzin Chotak Sking, besides senior citizens, community leaders and other respected members of society.

Addressing the gathering, Namgyal expressed gratitude to the people of Zanskar, particularly members of the JTN Fan Club, for the public reception and the support extended to him. He said the affection and encouragement shown by the people strengthened his commitment towards public service.

He highlighted the progress achieved during his tenure in sectors such as road connectivity, bridge construction, tunnel infrastructure, telecommunications, education, healthcare, electricity, economic development, sports, tourism and other public welfare initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life in Zanskar.

The former MP also referred to several projects sanctioned during his tenure that are awaiting completion or have witnessed delays. These include PMGSY road works, the Northern Grid power transmission project, bridge construction, installation of 4G saturation mobile towers, hospital infrastructure projects and other development works. He expressed hope that these projects would be completed at the earliest in the interest of the people of Zanskar.

In his concluding remarks, Namgyal appealed to the people of Zanskar to work collectively against the growing menace of drug abuse. He urged village communities, youth organisations, religious institutions, parents and civil society to strengthen public awareness and community vigilance to prevent the spread of narcotics.

He also called for collective efforts to ensure that the newly created district of Zanskar emerges as a region known for peace, harmony, healthy living and responsible community participation, free from drugs and other social evils.
