Kargil’s Mohd Hassan joins SAI NS NIS Patiala as strength & conditioning Coach

KARGIL: Mohd Hassan, a former boxing trainee from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) State Training Centre, Kargil, has joined the SAI Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NS NIS), Patiala, as a Strength and Conditioning Coach, marking a notable achievement for the sporting fraternity of Kargil and Ladakh.

A resident of Titichumik and son of Asgar Ali, Hassan secured the appointment after successfully completing his academic training in Sports Science. His new role at NS NIS Patiala—India’s premier sports coaching institution and one of Asia’s largest sports institutes—will involve designing and implementing scientific training programmes aimed at enhancing athletes’ strength, endurance, speed and overall physical performance.

The appointment follows Hassan’s growing involvement with India’s elite boxing programme. Prior to assuming his present role, he served as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Indian contingent during the national coaching camp held at NS NIS Patiala ahead of the U-23 Asian Boxing Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia. During the camp, he worked alongside the country’s emerging boxers, contributing to their physical conditioning and performance preparation.

He continues to serve at NS NIS Patiala, where he is engaged in delivering evidence-based strength and conditioning support to athletes training at the national level.

Welcoming the achievement, Syed Mehraj Uddin Shah, General Secretary of the District Kargil Olympic Association, said Hassan’s appointment reflected the growing emergence of sports professionals from Ladakh. He described Hassan’s journey—from a trainee at the SAI State Training Centre in Kargil to a coach at the country’s foremost sports institute—as an example of dedication, discipline and sustained perseverance.

Shah also acknowledged the contribution of the Government of India, the Sports Authority of India, and other institutions involved in talent development, stating that sustained investment in sports infrastructure and scientific training was creating opportunities for young people from remote regions to compete and contribute at the national level.

The District Kargil Olympic Association extended its best wishes to Hassan for his future assignments and expressed confidence that his accomplishment would encourage more youngsters from Kargil and Ladakh to pursue careers in sports sciences, coaching and high-performance athlete development.
