LEH: The Leh Literature Festival 2026 brought together military leaders, authors, students and citizens in a celebration of literature, leadership and India’s rich military heritage, with the theme “Indian Military: Valour & Wisdom.”
The festival was inaugurated by Lt Gen Madanraj Pande, GOC Fire & Fury Corps, marking an effort to connect the armed forces’ legacy of courage and leadership with the wider world of literature and ideas.
A key highlight of the event was the recognition of young talent. Mrs Swati Pande, Zonal President AWWA, presented book prizes to students who participated in the Inter-School Debate Competition, encouraging them to develop a deeper engagement with books, ideas and informed discourse.
The festival also featured an engaging conversation on “Life Lessons from the Battlefield”, with Lt Gen Satish Dua (Retd), former GOC Chinar Corps, sharing insights from his military experience in a dialogue with Col Ajay Raina (Retd), Lt Gen DP Pandey (Retd), also a former GOC Chinar Corps, was present during the session.
The discussion offered the audience an opportunity to reflect on the values forged in military service, including leadership, resilience, decision-making and the ability to face adversity—lessons that extend beyond the battlefield into everyday life.
The event concluded on a patriotic and cultural note with a captivating performance by the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre Band, adding a distinctive military character to the literary gathering.
The festival thus emerged as a platform where military experience, literature and youth engagement converged, highlighting the enduring connection between the armed forces’ traditions of valour and wisdom and the importance of nurturing a thoughtful, questioning and informed younger generation.
