LEH: A delegation from the Pendursey Gonpa Renovation Committee (PGRC), Fokar in Kargil district, on Saturday met BJP State President Tashi Gyaltson Khachu and sought his intervention for the repair and restoration of the historic Pendursey Gonpa, citing the deteriorating condition of the centuries-old monastery.
During the meeting, the delegation submitted a memorandum requesting financial assistance and urged the BJP leader to take up the matter with the appropriate authorities to facilitate restoration work at the earliest.
The delegation informed Khachu that the monastery has deteriorated over time and requires urgent conservation to prevent further damage. They emphasised the religious, cultural and historical importance of Pendursey Gonpa and stressed that preserving the heritage structure is essential for safeguarding Ladakh’s rich Buddhist legacy for future generations.
Responding to the memorandum, Tashi Gyaltson Khachu assured the delegation that he would examine the proposal and pursue the matter with the concerned authorities to explore avenues for extending the necessary support for the restoration project.
He acknowledged the importance of conserving heritage monuments and assured the delegation that efforts would be made to facilitate an appropriate response to their request.
The members of the Pendursey Gonpa Renovation Committee expressed gratitude to the BJP State President for granting them an audience and giving a patient hearing to their concerns. They also thanked him for assuring that the matter would be taken up with the relevant authorities.
The meeting centred on the need to preserve one of the region’s important religious heritage sites, with the delegation expressing hope that timely intervention would help conserve the monastery and protect its historical and cultural significance.
