RGU Professors deliver lectures on Adv Materials Research
KARGIL: The Departments of Chemistry and Physics at the Kargil Campus of the University of Ladakh jointly organised two special lectures on nanoscale surface engineering and supramolecular chemistry, introducing students and research scholars to emerging applications in nanotechnology, chemical sensing and advanced materials research.
Held at the Conference Hall of the Administrative Block, the programme featured lectures by Prof. Sanjeev Kumar, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences and Director of the Central Instrumentation Facility at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), and Prof. Rajesh Chakrabarty, Nodal Officer of the PURSUE Project under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and nodal officer for NAAC and NIRF at RGU, Arunachal Pradesh. Prof. Chakrabarty is also a former Head of the Department of Chemistry at the university.
The lectures, titled “Surface Engineering at Nanoscale” and “Designing Supramolecular Coordination Complexes for Sensing Applications”, focused on developments in nanoscale materials, molecular interactions and their potential applications in scientific research and technology.
In the first lecture, Prof. Sanjeev Kumar explained the principles and applications of nanoscale surface engineering, highlighting its relevance to nanotechnology, advanced materials and technological development.
In the second session, Prof. Rajesh Chakrabarty discussed the design of supramolecular coordination complexes, with particular emphasis on molecular recognition and metal–ligand interactions. He also explained their applications in chemical sensing and advanced materials research.
The sessions provided participants with insights into emerging scientific developments and highlighted the role of interdisciplinary research and advanced instrumentation in expanding scientific inquiry.
Faculty members, students and research scholars from the Departments of Chemistry and Physics attended the programme. The sessions also featured interactive discussions, with participants raising questions on scientific concepts and their applications. The invited experts addressed their queries through relevant examples and encouraged students and research scholars to actively engage in research and explore emerging areas of scientific investigation.
The programme began with a welcome by Dr. Mehboob Ali, In-charge Administration, Kargil Campus, and Dr. Gh. Ali, Coordinator of the Department of Chemistry. The invited experts were felicitated with traditional khataks and mementos.
Dr. Farida Batool, a faculty member of the Department of Physics, introduced the speakers and outlined their academic contributions.
Dr. Akbar Ali of the Department of Chemistry delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the invited experts for sharing their knowledge. He also acknowledged the support of Prof. Saket Kushwaha, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, Dr. Mehboob Ali, faculty members and students in facilitating the programme. Following the lectures, the experts visited the Departments of Chemistry and Physics, where they encouraged faculty members and students to pursue quality research and explore emerging scientific fields.
