LEH: The 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram was marked at Bhartiya Vidya Niketan (BVN) High School in Choglamsar, Leh, on Saturday, with students, teachers and members of the school community joining a collective singing programme organised as part of a nationwide observance.
The programme, held at 11 am following a call by Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan, saw students sing the national song together in unison.
Senior Advocate at the District and Sessions Court, Leh, Smt Eshey Lhamo attended the programme as the chief guest and joined the students in the singing.
Addressing the gathering, Lhamo spoke about the importance of patriotism, national unity and respect for the country. She urged students to uphold the values and discipline imparted by their school and to maintain respect for their parents, teachers and the nation.
The observance was part of programmes held across the country to commemorate 150 years of Vande Mataram. At BVN Leh, the collective singing brought students and teachers together in an event centred on national unity and civic values. The programme concluded with students singing the national song in one voice, marking the anniversary at the school in Leh.
