Leh: Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan will undertake a three-day visit to the Union Territory of Ladakh from June 19 to 21, during which he is scheduled to interact with border communities, review developmental initiatives and participate in the International Day of Yoga celebrations in Leh.
The visit will be the Vice-President’s first official tour of Ladakh since assuming office and comes amid continued focus on strengthening infrastructure, livelihoods and community development in strategically located border villages.
According to the official programme, Radhakrishnan will visit Lukung, a designated Vibrant Village in eastern Ladakh, on June 20. During the visit, he will interact with local Self Help Groups and gain first-hand insight into development initiatives being implemented under the Government of India’s Vibrant Villages Programme, aimed at improving socio-economic conditions in frontier settlements.
The interaction is expected to highlight efforts to enhance livelihood opportunities, strengthen local participation in development and improve infrastructure in remote border areas.
Later in the day, the Vice-President will pay homage at the War Memorial, recognising the sacrifices of armed forces personnel who have served in the region.
On June 21, Radhakrishnan will join International Day of Yoga celebrations in Leh, where youth, armed forces personnel and representatives of various organisations are expected to participate in large numbers.
The event will focus on promoting yoga as a means of fostering physical fitness, mental well-being and a balanced lifestyle. The participation of the Vice-President is expected to add prominence to the observance, which has become an annual feature in Ladakh, drawing involvement from both civilian and military communities. The three-day visit is expected to underscore the Centre’s continued engagement with Ladakh, particularly in the areas of border area development, community empowerment and public outreach in remote regions of the Union Territory.
